Rainbow Cloud Bread
Light as air and Instagram-worthy! This colorful, 3-ingredient cloud bread has taken social media by storm with its fluffy texture and eye-catching colors. Made from whipped egg whites, sugar, and cornstarch, this TikTok sensation creates a soft, pillowy treat that's perfect for photos and satisfies your sweet tooth with minimal ingredients.
Ingredients
- 3 egg whites, at room temperature
- 2 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- as needed food coloring (gel colors work best)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- for garnish powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions
- 1 Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2 In a large, clean bowl, add the room temperature egg whites. Make sure there is no yolk or any grease in the bowl, as this will prevent the whites from whipping properly.
- 3 Using an electric mixer, beat the egg whites on medium speed until they become frothy.
- 4 Gradually add the sugar while continuing to beat the egg whites. Increase the speed to high and beat until stiff, glossy peaks form (about 4-5 minutes).
- 5 Sift the cornstarch over the whipped egg whites and gently fold it in using a spatula. If using vanilla extract, fold it in at this stage.
- 6 For rainbow cloud bread, divide the mixture into separate bowls (one for each color). Add a small amount of gel food coloring to each bowl and gently fold until the color is evenly distributed.
- 7 Spoon the colored mixtures onto the prepared baking sheet, creating a dome shape about 4 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. For rainbow effect, either layer different colors on top of each other or swirl them together.
- 8 Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the outside is set and lightly golden. The bread should be slightly crisp on the outside but still soft inside.
- 9 Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- 10 Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve immediately for the best texture.
Chef's Tips
-
For the best volume, use room temperature egg whites. Cold egg whites won't whip up as well. You can quickly bring eggs to room temperature by placing them in a bowl of warm water for 5-10 minutes.
-
Make sure your mixing bowl and beaters are completely clean and free from any grease or residue. Even a tiny bit of fat can prevent egg whites from whipping properly.
-
Gel food coloring works better than liquid food coloring as it won't thin out the egg white mixture. Use just a small amount – a little goes a long way!
-
For a fun variation, add a teaspoon of your favorite flavoring like almond extract, lemon, or coconut instead of vanilla.
-
Cloud bread is best enjoyed immediately after cooling, as it tends to deflate and lose its fluffy texture over time. If you need to store it, place in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
